Mountain Research's initial lineup included handmade hiking boots, and the PYRENEES is a direct copy of that image. The engraved "A" mark, dark brown leather, and shoelace coloring are the very symbol of this shoe.
The mountain boots that I have released several times under the name SEtt for Mountain Boots are also a product that I am very attached to, which I finally managed to realize by requesting a former mountain boot craftsman who retired some time ago. This work is a homage to the relics of the past that can no longer be made due to the changing times, and it was with this feeling that I participated in this collaboration project. For me and the Mountain Research team, it is an immense joy to be able to revive something that is familiar and well known with the help of KEEN in a modern and functional form.
As a side note, another thing we paid special attention to was the deliberate use of leather for the insole and lining (rather than modern functional materials). This is a traditional mountain shoe design, but it is the fruit of the wisdom of our predecessors, who used the leather to absorb sweat from the soles of the feet, preventing them from becoming stuffy while minimizing any deterioration in comfort. It goes back and forth between old and modern (sorry), but we hope you will enjoy this kind of atmosphere (details) together with the scenery of Japan's mountains. (Kobayashi Setsumasa)
