Emily Scorpion / MANLARS designed by Jerry UKAI
MANLARS is an instrumental group formed in 1992. The original members were Hino ( alto sax ) , Nakajima ( drums ) , Suda ( bass ) , Gokita ( trumpet ) , Ukai ( keyboards ) , and Yoshida ( trombone ) . Arima (guitar ) occasionally participated.
The band did not have a name during their active period, but only decided on the name The Manlers after they went on hiatus.
Emily Scorpion is the first ballad with Japanese vocals by MANLARS , written in Hino's apartment in Shimokitazawa towards the end of the band's activities . The members gathered in Hino's room in the middle of the day, drank beer, and started a jam session while tipsy. Inspired by Ukai's phrase, all the other members wrote the lyrics, and Gokita sang the vocals. At this time, all the members had already become working adults, and they hardly practiced as hard as they did in their student days, or performed live, so this song, written in the band's later period, was never performed in front of an audience.
However , in the late 90s , when Hino held a solo concert at Ebisu Katchatora that later became legendary, he surprised everyone by playing Emily Scorpion on guitar. It was a great performance, but unfortunately it was the first and last time Emily Scorpion was performed in public . MANLARS is practically disbanded, and even when the members occasionally get together, there is no talk of Emily Scorpion .
Therefore, this T- shirt is a phantom work .
